Area football coaching moves come at fast pace

There will be at least five new head football coaches in the York-Adams League next season.

The latest domino to fall came Wednesday, when York Suburban announced it was looking for a new coach.

Brian Freed, who has led the Trojans' program for the past two years, has resigned. Freed, 45, went 6-4 overall in both of his seasons at Suburban, going 5-4 each season in Division III.

The decision was not easy for Freed.

"This was my choice," he said. "I'm looking to switch careers and I was afraid that my new job might not fit my football schedule. With not being in the school (as a teacher), some companies don't give you the time to do it (coach football). It's my choice, but it's not a choice that was easy. It wasn't something I wanted to do. I still have a passion for it (coaching) and I hope to get back into it. But it was the best thing for the school and program to step down now."

Freed took over a program that went 2-8 in 2010 and produced back-to-back winning seasons. He feels he's leaving the program on a solid foundation. He said there's a strong base of returning players to the varsity program and that the junior high programs enjoyed success in 2012.
